In a bid to promote science and technology amongst young Africans, MultiChoice and Eutelsat have announced the DStv Eutelsat Star Awards Essay and Poster Contest.

Secondary and high school students are expected to write an essay or design a poster that depicts how innovative use of satellite technology can propel Africa into the future.

Fields that can be covered by the essay written work or poster include communication, earth observation and navigation.

Students can be a part of this essay and poster design contest by doing a work on the topic,

“Currently, Satellites are being used in a variety of ways but there is always room for expansion and growth. Write an essay or design a poster on areas you believe the full potential of satellites have not been tapped into or embraced”.

Who Is Eligible To Participate In The DStv Eutelsat Star Awards Essay and Poster Contest

The contest is open to secondary and high school students aged 14-19 and living in African regions where Multi Choice operates.

Entries are to be submitted in English, French or Portuguese.

Prizes For DStv Eutelsat Star Awards Winners

Students who have the winning entries at the national level will be rewarded with computers or tablets and will be eligible to compete in the overall awards for the topmost prizes.

Overall Winners at the DStv Star Awards Will Receive The Following Prizes

Overall Essay Award

A trip for the winning student and their parent or legal guardian to Eutelsat in France. Opportunity to attend a rocket launch.

Overall Poster Award

A trip for the winning student and their parent or legal guardian to the MultiChoice offices and the South African Space Agency at Hartbeesthoek.

Schools attended by the overall awards winners and runners up will be rewarded with a DStv installation including dish, television, state-of-the-art PVR decoder and free access to the DStv Education bouquet.

Topic For DStv Eutelsat Star Awards

It’s sixty years since the first satellite Sputnik was launched, broadcasting a unique and easily captured ‘beep, beep, beep’ signal.

Looking back at this historic moment, write an essay or poster depicting how satellites have launched humankind into the 21st century and acted as a unifier.

How To Participate in The DStv Eutelsat Star Awards Essay and Poster Contest

Entry forms which contain more information regarding the contest is available at MultiChoice offices. Students in South Africa can collect a copy and submit their work at MultiChoice Africa, 251 Oak Avenue in Randburg Johannesburg.

After completing their work, intending participants should submit it in a MultiChoice Office entry box in the region they are from.

The submission should be posted to Multi Choice offices listed on the entry form.

Submissions must be accompanied with an entry form while poster entries must come with a creative summary.

Entries for DStv Eutelsat Star Awards Essay and Poster Contest closes on Friday October 26 2018. Overall winners will be announced at an award event to be held in February 2019.
